Dawn Okoro's work is informed by the composition techniques used in fashion photography. Her project "Misogynoir/Resistance" explores the intersection between intersection between racism and misogyny. Okoro creates a shrine of sorts through her paintings of "video vixens" she grew up seeing in hip-hop videos in the '90s. The women are partially crossed out as a way of pushing back against misogynoir.
